General information about how things usually work — not advice about your situation.

Information, not advice

Everything here is general information. It is not legal advice and it is not written for your circumstances. Legal advice means a licensed attorney applying the law to your facts, having heard them. No published guide can do that, however specific it looks.

No attorney–client relationship

Citywide is a publication, not a law firm. Reading it, following a link, or writing to the editorial team creates no attorney–client relationship, and nothing sent to us is privileged or confidential.

Local rules differ, a lot

This is the most important limitation on this site. Most of what we cover is city or county ordinance sitting on top of state law. Fines, notice periods, permit categories, appeal routes and deadlines genuinely differ between neighbouring jurisdictions. Where a guide names a place, it is an example of an approach, not a statement of what applies where you live.

Time-sensitive statements are dated in the text and sit beside a link to the source. The source is authoritative; this site is not. Where they disagree, the source wins.

No outcomes, no eligibility

Nothing here predicts how a case, application, appeal or dispute will come out, and nothing determines whether you qualify for a benefit, a permit, a licence or a remedy. Descriptions of what usually happens describe patterns, not promises.

We link to statutes, regulations, agencies and courts, and in some immigration guides to an outside law firm whose practice area is relevant. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or availability. A link is not an endorsement.

Use at your own risk

The site is provided as is. To the fullest extent permitted by law we accept no liability for loss arising from reliance on it. If a deadline, filing or right matters to you, verify it against the primary source or consult a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction before acting.
